Keli Fine, Gyrotonic®
Master Instructor
Keli Fine began her Gyrotonic training in New York City in the late
1980s with the first Gyrotonic studio. After returning home to San
Francisco and pioneering one of the first satellite studios she
continued her studies with Juliu Horvath on both coast. Currently based
in Sonoma, California she travels and teaches worldwide conducting
workshops and teacher training.
Yoga and dance were the main influences of early life. Keli spent
twelve years participating in the first Yoga center in San Francisco,
leaning toward the expressive and esoteric qualities of movement. She
then focused on a career as a choreographer using Gyrotonic as an
inspiration for her work.
During the past 15 years Keli has renewed her love for Yogic practices,
studying with world-renowned teachers Ramanand Patel and Kofi Busia, as
well as continuing to study with Juliu. Keli is known for her ability
to guide and inspire her students to move beyond limitation into
freedom, passing on the love and knowledge she has received from her
teachers.

Foundation Teacher Training

Client Intensives
Client
Intensives are open to certified teachers and apprentices as well as
clients who have already had a session with me. We will work for five
consecutive days of either privates or semi-privates. The focus of the
work for the week is to be decided according to each person’s goals.
Last year I tried these intensives as an experiment and the
results were so incredible that they have become one of the main
staples in my schedule.
Apprentice Reviews
Apprentice reviews are open to students who have gone through the
Foundation teacher training. Some of them are just afternoons and some
are full days or weekends. The full days usually start with
Gyrokinesis®. The machine review is applicable to the apprentice
hours required for certification.
Level II Preparation
Level II Preparation is a 6-day course designed to prepare you to take
Juliu’s Level II Teacher Training. You will learn to give yourself an
advanced workout.
Gyrotonic
Ladder Teacher Training
Remodeled from the original wooden ladder that was used in Juliu’s
first studio in the Eighties, the Ladder has undergone several
incarnations. Today it has been transformed into a dynamic piece of
Gyrotonic apparatus. The Ladder gives us that extra support to open and
strengthen hard to reach areas while instantaneously integrating newly
found strength and flexibility within the whole body.
Using gravity to work for our benefit, the Ladder has a supporting rung
that supports any gravitational position we would like to work in. Once
mastered, the Ladder lets us sweep from forward bends to backbends or
from side to side in a single fluid movement using gravity as the
resistance.
There is nothing similar to the Ladder and its various innovative
exercises. The way it can open the upper chest and thoracic areas is
unsurpassed. Using the adjustable hand loops, any part of the spine can
be leveraged open using the supporting rung. Exercises are designed to
offer us full control over the amount of force used to facilitate these
openings.
The approach to leg work is also totally unique. Using the
rung and support bars, the entire back is elongated and stabilized
between the front and back of the Ladder. This creates a strength
position from which to move the legs through space--imagine doing the
hamstring series facing downward with the legs suspended about four
feet off the floor.
Once familiar with the Ladder, students will be able to integrate it
into a workout using other equipment or complete the entire repertoire
as a full workout. The effect is absolutely invigorating.
Jumping Stretching Board Pre-Training and
Teacher Training
The Jumping Stretching board was part of Juliu’s
original patent, combining several components into one
machine.Subsequently the Jumping Stretching board was made into a
separate unit. The latest version utilizes sliding discs on tracks, a
jumping baseboard that adjusts to simulate the position of real
jumping, and parallel bars for assisted traction, balance and airborne
leg work.Using the same Gyrotonic principles learned in the foundation
course, the choreography coupled with the geometry of the positions
compels the user to move from “center strength”. Moving deeper into
joints and connecting slow and dynamic movements while weight bearing
not only builds super strength, but also squeezes out impurities from
the deepest level.
The Jumping exercises and their preliminaries are ideal for developing
perfect alignment in the legs and build endurance for aerobic work.
Although the Jumping Stretching board program takes us to the next
level of strength and flexibility, it also contains rehabilitative
exercises for the pelvis, knees, feet, shoulders, and hips.
The pre-training will focus on helping students to understand and
practice the first level of exercises
The teacher training will deepen that experience as well as add new
exercises and different approaches for teaching.
After completing the Sliding board Teacher Training each student will
be able to incorporate the Jumping Stretching board into a workout in
conjunction with the tower handle unit or create a workout from start
to finish using only the Jumping Stretching Board.
